The belt cover design is poor. Too much grass gets into the pulleys and belt. I've had the mower about 6 months and have to remove both the front and rear drive mechanism covers twice now to clean out the accumulated grass clogging the drive pulleys. The belt cover should cover more of the pulleys and belt area. I do not let my lawn get high and do not cut it very short, but this mower has issues.
After I assemble the mower and found it very easy to start one pull and it started. The only thing I can say is that you will need to be in shape as there is only one speed on the all wheel drive and that is very fast. I was almost running to keep up the pace. For a person that is almost 70 years this is something to deal with.
I am coming from a JD commercial grade walk behind, which admittedly spoiled me. It had a feature that allowed the engine to run but stopped the blade so you didn't have to restart it every time you needed to empty the bag, which I dearly miss and forgot to shop for when looking for a replacement. However, I was teaching my 12yo boy to mow the lawn and bought this one for us. It has been a month and both he and I have used it. It starts like a dream, no primer bulb, just pull the cord and it starts right up. The AWD is very powerful as I have a couple of small spots with and incline and loose soil that the RWD would spin out on, where this one goes right over without any loss of traction. I have two small complaints but I would still recommend the machine. 1) No side chute, I have been searching for an aftermarket compatible one, with little luck. Apparently many manufacturers are going away from the chute. 2) While the speed is technically "variable" it is dependant on how close you pull the drive lever towards the handle. It is not terribly comfortable to hold the lever an inch away from the handle while mowing, nor are you able to hold a consistent speed. I much prefer a preset adjustable drive speed lever to keep speed consistent. The boy loves this mower (more then the JD) so as long as he is cutting the lawn I am happy.
