A Top Shelf Saw For Homeowners
This is either a low end professional/commercial duty saw or a high end casual/homeowner saw. I have recently acquired a BBQ Pit and have used this saw daily gathering a year's worth of Hickory. Some wood has been standing and some has been felled for 12-24 months. Either way, the saw has endured hours of use. As of now, it seems to be getting better with use. It starts easier, rev's quicker and has more power than when new. I'm on my 3rd chain by now. I recently had the opportunity to run a rival similar sized saw side-by-side with the 450 and the Husqvarna out performs the rival in my opinion.

the goods
I cut firewood for a living and just recently replaced my 350 with the 450.

So far I have no complaints other than I wish I would have done it sooner!

The 450 absolutely sips fuel! Used to have to fill my 350 at least 3-4 times when cutting a cord.
(8'x 8' x 4') Now I have to fill it just before or after I finish my cord! Truly impressive.

Sometimes I forget to switch to my higher horsepower saw when felling trees due to the 450 having plenty of "go" itself. And then it goes further in impressing me by (usually) handling the job easily.

Well done Husqvarna!!

Great Product
I use this saw to remove small to medium trees from my property and it operates flawlessly. I especially like that it's fuel efficient and very easy to start. Having a sight window on the fuel cell is a welcome feature, you don't have to guess. To adjust the chain there's only one nut to loosen, and the screw adjustment is easily accessible on the side. Another great feature is that the start/stop function is handled with one lever.
I have had other brands but Husqvarna is at the top of the list in performance and ease of operation.

Great mid-size saw!!
Needed one of these for occasional tree clearing, so I bought the 450 Rancher. Really good power. I've had several other brands in this class, but this saw is head & shoulders better than they were. Easy starts, stays running & gets the job done without the frustration of a saw that doesn't work right.

Initial impression is good
I have not cut with it yet, but everything indicates well made product for the money. Time will tell after initial use.

I have read other reviews about starting issues. It started no problem out of the box following the instructions. I did have a hard time restarting after initial run, but after reading warm starting instructions it started no problem.
excellent all around performer
I"ve had this saw for five years and hasn't been to the shop yet. I cut about eight to ten cord a year give or take some and this saw has never let me down. I suggest the 18" bar and no bigger. If you need to go larger you better off going to the 455 Rancher, but that is more than I would need .

I have an 18" chainsaw (with less power) good for smaller trees. Need something stronger for larger stock. can this Husqvarna be bought with a 20" bar and chain and at what price? Also what would be the weight in that configuration?

Thanks for your help
Ed on Mar 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You can buy an aftermarket bar and chain combination. Even stepping up to a 3\8 bar and chain combo if you replace the factory clutch drum\drive sprocket. The 450 has enough punch to do so easily. The length of the bar is not an indication of the "power" of a given chainsaw. Educate yourself on the saw you chose, what it's cutting characteristics are, etc. With tools available these days,(YouTube and Google) the ignorance of a person that uses a potentially deadly item like a chainsaw is unacceptable, if not actually criminal.
What kind of oil do you put in the chain oil compartment and what kind of oil do you mix with the gas
steven on Sep 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Go to Home Depot or similar and get "ECHO Bar & Chain Oil" (I get it by the gallon) which is put as is in the front of the saw (see Manual). Also get "2-Cycle Oil" which is mixed with gas -- suggest 89 octane -- and add a little "B&S Fuel Stabilizer" to protect engine from ethanol.
What's the difference between 450 and 450e?
A shopper on Oct 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The E-Series New powerful all-round saw for people who value professional qualities in a saw. The X-Torq® engine means lower fuel consumption and reduced emission levels. Auto return stop switch and visible fuel level makes the saw easier to handle. Equipped with Smart Start® and fuel pump to every time ensure easy starts.
why does this chainsaw only have a 18 in bar? It's the same model as seen on other sites. Only the other sites say theirs has a 20 in bar. So my question is this, why is this bar only 18 in and not 20 in? Can it run with a 20 in bar?
Ike on Mar 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Husqvarna 455 Rancher we are showing this to be a 20" bar not the 450.
